Being married to a Greek, we often would take our summer vacations in the Greek Islands. One of my favorite things about Greece was the breakfast spread at our favorite hotels!
Greek yogurt was always a breakfast staple whether you were at a fancy hotel or in a village. We were eating this wonder food long before it was popular in the States! Now everyone is talking about Greek yogurt because of its high protein content.
Three reasons I love Greek yogurt:
On average, Greek yogurt contains about 3 grams of protein per ounce. This can vary slightly depending on the brand and whether it’s full-fat, low-fat, or non-fat Greek yogurt. The protein in the Greek yogurt helps tremendously with satiety as well as muscle protein synthesis.
Greek yogurt has less lactose than regular yogurt due to the straining process it undergoes, making it easier to digest for those who are lactose intolerant.
It contains probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria that can help improve digestive health and boost the immune system.
So enjoy this dish at breakfast, or as a snack to help boost your protein grams for the day. I personally love eating this at night as a dessert, as it helps with satiety and quells the sweet tooth at the same time!
